The story begins with two families, the Romualdezes and the Estrellas, who are long-time friends. Jules Romualdez is best friends with Romina Estrella’s brother Luke. However, the closeness of the two families are servered when Luke accidentally drowns in the company of Jules. Amelia Estrella, who is very fond of his deceased son, turns all her attention to Jules, treating him as if he was her own. Meanwhile, Romano Estrella gets depressed and almost ignores his family.

Both Amelia and Romano inadvertently neglect Romina, who runs to Jules for love and attention. And since Jules is very much guilty of his best friend’s death, he vows to take care of Romina. Life will never be the same again for Jules and Romina—but it’s also about to throw them a curveball when they meet again, this time as strangers. What will be Jules’ reaction when he finds out that Romina is the girl he promised to take care of so long ago? Will Luke’s death, and the part he played in it, haunt him again? And what of Romina? When she realizes who Jules is in her life, will she be able to forgive him for abandoning her when she needed him the most?
